NORTH SHORE HOCKEY NEWS NIPIGON AND TERRACE SPLIT AT NIPIGON In the first two games of the semi- finals of the North Shore Hockey League "A" series which were held in the Nipigon Memorial Arena on Saturday night and Sunday afternoon the league leading Nipigon Flyers and the third place Terrace Bay Superiors ended up with a game apiece, The Superiors won the Saturday night game 6-4 before a crowd of over 800 and on Sunday afternoon the Flyers whipped the Terraee boys 9-1 before a throng of close to 1,000, In Saturday's game, Terrace opened the scoring at 14.28 when Diduch scored on an assist from Osmar closely followed at 16,52 by Mannila of Nipigon on an assist from L, Lespi, Terrace had their best time in the second period when they scored four counters at the following times: 0.11, Osmar unassisted; 13,01 Moro from MeEwen 15.57 Bond from Hayes and Stashiw: 18.19, Osmar fromDiduch. Nipigon went scoreless in this period which ended 5-2 in favour of Terrace, Diduch with an assist from a scéred Terrace's sixth goal at 31 seconds in the third period closely followed by _ three Nipigon goals: Dupuis from Baxter and Lespi at 2.13; Kotzma from Penziwol and Ahl at 3,10: L. Dunville from H, Dunville at°4.23 which was the last goal in the third period. The game ended 6-4 for Terrace. There was. only one penalty during the whole game and that went to Borsk of Nipigon in the second period for inter- ference. Baxter with an assist from H, Mannila opened the game at 49 seconds followed by Penziwol from Ward at 2.37 and Kotzma from Penziwol and Ah? at 8,03. In the second Lespi scored at 8.25 unassisted followed by Dupuis from Baxter at 10.36, The Supcriors went scoreless for the first two periods, but opened the third period with their only goal, Moro from Riley at 5,07. Nip- igon again took over the scoring at 6.33 when Baxter scored from Lespi. At 16,51 Dupuis sunk Nipigon's seventh goal from H. Mannila and Baxter. L. Dunville from Tretiak scored at 17,49 and at 19.19 Baxter from Dupuis scored their ninth counter, Bill McKenzie of Fort William handled both games very ably assisted by McCanna and Gauthier Saturday and Ross and Gauthier on Sunday' and good clean play resulted. A rather dis- appointing turnout of Terrace Bay fans' (107) were on hand for Sundays game which did not help the Terrace Bay Team, -- + Tuesday night 1n Terrace Bay before a record crowd of 1060 - Jim Moro was presented with the O'Keefe Trophy and a watch courtesy of C.R. Strachan Jewellers by A. James, President of the N.S.H.L. as the leading scorer in the N.S.H.L. before Nipigon ' Flyers again showed their superiority be defeating the locals 7-0 to lead the best of 5 series 2-1, A scoreless first period in which both teamsplayed good fast hockey with 5 minor penalties being handed out by referee Ross to Moro, Desrosiers, an:. Hanley for Terrace and Borsk and Lespi of the Flyers, The second period saw the Flyers score 5 times while Terrace Bay were unable to beat Westerman in the Nipigon net in spite of having some excellent chances on pass outs from the corners. Penalties were reversed in this period Nipigon drawing 3 to Lespi, Ahl and Borsk while Brassard and Osmar were the offenders for Terrace. (Cont. on page 9 )
