C, Laundy, Dr. M, McCausland and Dr. Hugh Campbell spoke briefly, as did Roland Wills, the First Aid Instructor, who suggest- ed some consideration be given to forming an organization of those who completed these courses so that the work could be reviewed, 0-0-0 CONCERT SERIES On February 23rd at 8:15 p.m. in the High Scho@l Auditorium, the Board of Educa- tion will sponsor their final concert of this season's series, The artists will be Manfred Stiler, Lyric tenor who arrived in Canada six years ago and is now a Canadian citizen, When in Europe he performed on many radio stations and toured as assistant concert artist, After arriving in Winnipeg, he was spon- sored bya group'of organizations for further (Cont. on next col,) Page 8 CONCERT SERIES (Cont.) study in New York when Jan Pierce, who auditioned the young man, took a great interest in him and has plans for his future, He hes also appeared with the National Opera Company as well as the Toronto Con- servatory Opera Company in excerpts of La Traviata and La Boheme, He has also rec- eived many awards from the Royal Conservat- ory of Music in Toronto, including a Rotary Club Summer opera school scholarship. Edith Meck, a pianist, was born in Van- couver and made her first appearance in the British Columbia Musical Festival at the age of six, Her festival honours and exam ination record were outstanding and her recognized work as en accompanist began at the age of ten with a Vancouver school choir, She became known as a concert pianist in the west and in 1945 she received a scholar~ ship from the Royal Conservatory of Music, and came to Toronto in the fall of that year. She and her husband, a Canadian baritone, Glenn Gardiner, have for the past few seasons concertised together, They appeared in joint recitals on C.B.C.'s Distinguished Artists Series, Miss Meek has also played extensively for numerous singers and is now affiliated with the Royal Conservatory as a vocal coach, Angela Antonelli, soprano, was born in Guelph, Ontario in 1933. She made her first public appearance at the age of three, She entertained troops during the war with her older sister, Josephine and her father, who is a music teacher, : Angela attended Separate School and Loretto Academy, She won scholarships in Kiwanis Festivals in Guelph and surrounding districts, At the age of 16 she won a radio talent show prize in Guelph, which included a trip to Montreal and N.B.C. programme, "Opportunity Knocks", After graduating from Loretto Academy in 1951, she came to Toronto to study at the Royal Conservatory of Music under Dr, E, Vinei, Angela won the Grand Award on the Spring Series of "Opportunity Knocks" in 1952 and appeared on the Summer series for 13 weeks over C.J.B.C. She appeared on N.0.C. programme "Singing Stars of Tomorrow'! In January 1953 at the age of 19 she won the Conservatory scholarship for 1953-54 and appeared on "Singing Stars of Tomorrow" again in January 1954, She sang with the Grandstand Chorus at the C.N.E. in 1952-53 and 1954. Had a six week engagement in Paget, Bermuda, during the summer of 1954, Appeared with Mundinger Symphony Orchestra at Massey Hall in the spring of 1953 and (Cont. on page 9
