Volume 5, No. 5 C. BE. "MONTY" PAGET APPOINTED CHAIRMAN OF FHE BOARD OF TRUSTEES OF THE IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT OF TERRACE BAY Effective December 31, 1954, C. E. Paget was appointed Chairman of the Board of Trustees by the Executive Council of the Ontario Government. "Monty" Paget replaces H. C. Laundy who resigned from the position, The resignation of Mr, Laundy made it necessary for the Executive Council under the provisions of the Municipal Act to appoint a new member to the Board and to appoint a new Vice-Chairman. W. E. Cavanaugh is the new Vice- Chairman and A. E. Driffield is the new member, The Board of Trustees is as follows: C. E, Paget, Chairman W. E. Cavanaugh, Vice-Chairman A, E. Driffield W. F, Strutt, Secretary-Treas- urer. In accordance with the Municipal Affairs Act, the above Board constitutes the Public and High School Boards. A. E. "Archie" Driffield as the new member of the Board is employed in the accounting department of the LongLac Pulp and Paper Company and has been since January 1950, Archie hails from Toronto, is married and has one son. H. ©. "Bert" Laundy was the original Chairman of the Board of Trustees as well as Chairman of the Public and High School Boards. The first meeting of the Board was held on October 1, 1947. Prior to that date there was a great deal of organizational work which had to be attended to by Bert Laundy and Frank Strutt. The Board of Trustees meets regularly (Cont. on next col.) However, the administrat- ive burden can be great and we are fortunate in having men who will serve in order to further the progress of our town . 0-0-0 JACK WELLINGS RINK WIN ZONE CURLING PLAY- DOWNS AT RED ROCK The Terrace Bay representatives at the Northwest Curling Association Zone play- downs at Red Rock came out on top last week-end January 29th and 30th, The Tcrrace Bay rink beat the Red Rock entry, the Marathon and Nipigon entries This win for Terrace Bay advances them to the Lakehead where they meet seven other zone winners on February 7th and 8th for the right to represent Northwestern Ontario Curling Association at a playoff at Sudbury. The winner at Sudbury will represent Northern Ontario. in the Dom- inion Curling finals to be held in Edmonton. So our Terrace Bay curlers have passed the first hurdle.. The rinks they beat at Red Rock were the best in this district, as each club condwts a play off in order to enter the zone playdowns, At Fort William the seven zone winners will be a little tougher opposition (Cont. on page 7 )
