SOFT3SALL After 5 4 innings of play last Friday night it looked as if Townsite- Maintenance was finally going to break into the win colum. But one inning later T-M had absorbed their 4 straight defeat at the hands of Shift #1 by a 16-11 score, This was a game of give and take, T-M might have won with better fielding but they gave more than they took and so lost. Errors on both sides kept the score at 8-7 for #1 until the top of the 6th the T-M scored 4 runs, mainly on throwing errors and took en 11-8 lead which -should have been_enough for a win, However, Shift #1 went on a rampage and scored 8 big runs in their half of the 6th on solid hitting and a couple of errors and won going away, For a lover of high scoring games here was the game to see, Mrs. Thorsteinson was quite pleased at winning the $11.60 draw prize, On a beautiful Sunday afternoon Shift #3 trampled all over Salary by a 10-2 score. Alf Adrian pitched his usually fine game and gave up but 6 hits, all singles, while striking out 9 men, Five of the 6 Salary hits were of the scratch variety with Joe Heenan getting the only solid blow. Len Crockford, #3 third baseman, was the game's slugger, poling a home run into left field with one man on base, Tho the Salary pitcher gave up 10 hits, his team didn't want to be outdme and so very graciously donated (they were glad to get rid of them) 11 errors! Needless to say #3 didn't refuse the gift, managed about (Cont. on next col.) , tu Fage 6 SOFTBALL (Cont. ) 5 runs fom the Salary's generosity, and won very easily, As no one claimed the $4.55 draw prize it was carried forward to Monday's game, Monday night a good crowd saw a game they should never forget. 'This game was . by far the best game of the past 2 seasons and was primarily a tight pitcher's duel between Alf Adrian of #3 Shift and Frank Whitfield of #1, © #1 shift got 2 runs without a hit in the top of the lst due to 3 very costly errors on easy plays. This was all the scoring for #1 Shift. #3 Shift got one run back in the 5th inning when Adrian singled and finally scored on a wild pitch, However, this wesn't enough and #1 Shift walked off the field with a 2-] victory. Frank Whitfield pitched good bail, giving up but 4 hits and striking out 6, but he wasn't the better pitcher, Alf Adrian gave up lione hit and struck out 13 batters, Adrian showed his ability in the end inning when Pete Diduch lead off with a triple, Adrian struck out the next 2 batters and forced Johnny Shritt to fly out to left field, thus gotting out of a very bad jam, The people of Terrace Bay will never see a much better game than this one. If they do, Alf and Frank probably will pitch it. Again no one claimed the draw prize. The $9.15 was carried forward to Wednesday's game. Last night #4-Structural scored 4 runs in the lst inning on 2 hits and 4 errors and held onto this lead for a 9-5 win over Tcwnsite-Maintenance, TM was slowly creeping up and was only losing by a 6-4 score in the top of the 7th, when Nick Chopty, #4 pitcher, slugged a home run with 2 men on base to ice the game for #4. Jimmy Curming tried to put T-M back in the game in the last of the 7th by clouting his second homer of the game, A quick double play put an end to this rally and #4 won its 2nd victory of the season, leaving T-M winless in 5 tries, Nick Chopty hit the only #4 homer, but it was a big one. Stan Swaresh hit one homer for T-M while Jimmy Cumming was the stick star" of the game, getting 2 homers and 1 Single in 4 times at bat. Tho! T-M hit 3 homers. they only meant 3 runs as the bases were empty each time, _ Since T-M now has lost 5 straight , they're sure to break out soon and clobber (Cont. on Page 7)
