BASEBALL Last Friday night Townsite-Maintenance out~errored Shift #3 and so lost the game by a 13-9 score. Stan Swaresh, T-M pitcher deserved a better fate but the victory went to Alf 'Adrian. Alf, while pitching a good game, didn't help his cause much as he threw the ball into center field on several occasions on pick-off plays. It looked as if they might pall the game out of the fire, but an easy double play, due to poor base running, quickly put an end to the game. Mrs, Bill Sadowick was the happy winner of the $3.70 draw prize. On Sunday Shift #2 and Salary met in a game determining lst place. After the 3rd inning there wasn't much doubt that #2 would stay on top of the league. Coming up wit: 8 runs on only 3 hits but with 5 big Salary errors and very sloppy fielding #2 took a 10-1 lead. Peter Rapke, Salary pitcher, certainly was the victim of miserable support in this inning, Salary tried to catch up, but #2 was not to be denied and ground out an easy 15-8 victory. Besides the sloppy defensive 'play, Salary left far too many men stranded on the bases to have any hopes for victory. Bob Burella, #4 second-baseman, hit the hardest and best home rum of the season. Wilf Mallais took home the $4.85 draw prize, Yesterday evening Shift #4-Structural finally broke into the win colum by coming from behind and beating Salary 11-10, . Salary had a 7-1 lead after the top half of the 3rd, but errors and more errors quickly gave #4 their second wind, # took advantage of the breaks and fin- ally took an 11-9 lead in the bottom of the 6th, Hank Krahn again distinguished him- self by making a great catch of a very hard drive off the bat of Joe Heenan in the top of the 7th, Hank hurt his hand on the play but held on to the ball for the out, With a little better base~running Salary might have pulled the game out of the fire in the last inning, but this hurt their chances a lot. They did score one run and loaded the bases with 2 outs, That badly needed hit just wasn't to be had and #4 walked off the field with victory #1.
