BASEBALL Last Thursday evening a small crowd of hardy adventurers sat thru 2 steady rain-~ fall to see Shift #3 and Salary play the fourth game of the season. The game was finally called after four and a half innings of play in the middle of the mild cloudburst with Shift #3 on the long end of a 5-3 score, Alf Adrian, #3 pitcher was in rare form, really mowing down the salaried sluggers. A "mild" rhubarb developed the following day when Salary protested this game, but as yet no dec- ision has been reached on this protest. As no one was present to claim the $2 draw prize it was carried forward to Sunday's game, Last Sunday's game was played between Shift #1 and Townsite-Maintenance, Shift #1 came thru in the clutch to win 9-5. With two men on base and none out in the bottom of the 7th Frank Whitfield easily got the next three batters out to erase the T-M threat. This was the second win for last year's champs, but the second loss for T-M, who have yet to win a game. Bob Burella was the lucky winner of a $5.30 draw prize, On Tuesday night Shift #2 and Shift #3 met for the first time this season -A small, cold-weather crowd saw a game full of errors, Given any support, the pitchers would have had a real low- scoring pitcher's duel. The final score was 8-7 in favour of Shift #2, There were a total of seven hits and 19 strike outs, Aho, giving up 4 hits and striking out 10, was the winning pitcher, AIf Adrian gave up 3 hits and struck out 9 (Cont. on next col.) va Page 7 BASEBALL (Cont, ) in a losing effort. Aho also got 2 hits-jand scored 3 of his team's runs, Going into the bottom of the 7th Shift #3 was leading 7-5, but 3 errors quickly gave the game to #2 Shift. Nobody claimed the $3.50 draw prize and this amount was carried forward to Wednesday's game, Last evening a large crowd saw a good "football" game between Salary and Shift #1, The final score was 22-10 in favour of Salary. This game had any- thing and everything, and while not well played was a crowd pleaser. Frank Whitfield paraded 3 pitchers and 2 catchers out on the field during the game, but to no avail. Salary had their hitting clothes on, Each team hit 2 home runs, Grose and McEwan for Shift #1 and Marostica and Heenan for Salary. Both teams now have 2 wins and 1 loss for the season, Emile Charban was the draw winner, He collected the nice sum of $9.25.
