"Hon, Stuart Garson, minister of Justice, told the House of Commons yesterday he was prepared to consider the suggestion that tobacco companies be compelled to manu- facture cigarettes which-would burn out soon after they were discarded. ' The proposal was made once again by Stanley Knowles (CCF, Winnipeg North Centre), who contended the, time had arrived when some measure should be' adopted to reduce the number of fires caused by burning cigarettes, Mr. Knowles said it had been established that cigarettes could be made to extinguish themselves quickly when no longer being smoked by the application of chemicals to (Cont. on next col.)
