CRAIG LEAVES TERRACE BAY One of the originators of Terrace Bay, this week left the community with his family to take. up newly assigned duties in Toronto as Director of Service Operations for Kimberly-Clark of Canada. Hamilton S, Craig, better known to his many friends as "Ham", first came to what is now Terrace Bay in 1945 with the original survey parties, before it was decided where the site of this project would actually be located, Since that time he has been intimately associated with the project as manager and then General Manager of LongLac Pulp and Paper Company. At a farewell party in the Logion Hall tondored by his many friends, "Ham" was the recipient of two beautiful crystal decanters, and the inscription on the memento which accompanied the gift bore heartfolt tribute to a man whose untiring efforts on behalf' of this great project have earned for him the respect and esteem of an entire community, The contents of the inscription are as follows: --_ "Ae Manager and General Manager of LongLac Pulp and Paper Company Limited, you impressed all who were associated with you by your ability as an administrator and the loyalty which you inspired contributed much to the de- velopment of the Terrace Bay project. By your genuine interest in peeple as well as activities and community life, you have left a permanent impression on the community which you helped to develop from its inception and we are proud to have been associated with you. While we regret your departure from us at this time, we trust that we will remain in your thoughts despite the added responsibilities which have been given to you as a tangible reward for efforts which we, who have known you best, well appreciate. Best of luck "Ham" in all your future undertakings and as you leave us remember that a host of good wishes go with you from your good friends in Terrace Bay and the surrounding district, most of whom are here tonight," Our best wishes go also with Mrs. Craig and "Chuck". Being a Manager's wife is not always the easiest of tasks but Mrs. Craig discharged her many duties in a manner which ~ met with the approval.of the community and her many friends are really going to miss her, i o-0--5 TERRACE BAY RESIDENTS DECIDE ON BOWLING ALLEYS At a meeting of residents of Terrace Ba held on Thursday evening, September 1st, proposals were presented by the Community Recreation Committee regarding development of bowling facilities for the community and were adopted almost unanimously. TBe decision thus reached assures Terrace Bay of 4 bowling alleys within the next month or so and they will be located in the Recreation Center, Lowor Caup. Financing of the alleys involving $10,000, will be undertaken by LongLae Pulp and Paper Company with profits from the alleys going to pay both principal and interest. A careful appraisal of anticipitated revenue indicates that the entire debt will be paid off by the Recreation Committce in a matter of 3 years at which time the title to the alleys will be transferred to the Committee, By developing similar revenue producing facilities the Committee hopes to be able to finance other recreational facilitics and activities, It should again be pointed out, however, that at no time has the committee any intention of interfering with the autonomy of any o¥ganization in the community. Development of the bowling alley project is the first major undertaking of the Terrace Bay Community Recreation Committee which was established last March under the chairmanship of Jack Wellings. Much behind=the-scenes effort has been expended by Comnittee members and it is hoped that additional projects which are being and will be developed will receive the same ratification by residents of Terrace Bay as was given to bowling alley proposals.
