Volume 4 No. @ ARGEST CIRCULATION IN TERRACE BAY 7 January 13, 1949 SSS SS eee EEE EES CURLING CLUB NEWS RUTH BANGARTT'S RINK WINS NOVELTY BONSPEIL Monday evening January 10th marked the wind-up of Terrace Bay's Second Annual Novelty Bonspeil and saw a rink skipped by Ruth Bangartt outcurl Jack Wellings rink 9 - 5 to take top honours. Members of Ruth's rink included Joe Campbell, 3rd; Jim Wickett, 2nd. and Eve Woloshyn, lead. In the Consolation Event of the 'Speil Mel Bamforth edged Doug Colquhoun by an 8 = 7 count. Mel's rink also included Les Martin, Kay McKeen and Al Heuer. TERRACE BAY CURLERS VISIT MARATHON Terrace Bay curlers visited Marathon during the past week-end for the Official Opening of the new four-sheet Marathon Curling Rink and were able to return home with victories in all four games curled, On Saturday afternoon in the Draw which marked the Official Opening, a rink skipped by Jack Wellings and including Fred Soughton, Bill Lowe and Monty Paget gained a 12 - 10 margin over a Marathon rink skipped by Geo. Shand, with George Gee (3rd); Grant Ross (2nd); and Claude Steeves (lead). Saturday evening, the same Wellings skipped rink defeated a rink skipped by John Chapple of Fort William by a 16 - 8 score. On Sunday, by 2 15 - 5 count, Jack Wellings, Rune Ostling, Bert Laundy and Marv Lemon defeated Alex Gordon, N. Zimmerman, Sam Baxter and Roy Barber. In the second Sunday game, the same rink skipped by Rune Ostling, earned a 10 - 3 victory over Walt Milne, Alex Caldwell, Alex McDonald and Ernie Turner. Members of the local curling club were loud in their praise of the hospitality extended by Marathon curlers and their friends, and would like to take this opportunity of extending congratulations to the Marathon Curling Club for their efforts in the development of such excellent curling facilities. 0-0-0 NEW OFFICERS ELECTED BY 'LADIES AUXILIARY The Ladies! Auxiliary of the Terrace Bay Community Church held its first regular monthly meeting for the new year on Wednesday, January Sth in the Recreation Centre. The president, Mrs. Rune Ostling was in charge of the meeting. After the opening ¢xercises, the minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved. The treasurer's report was given by Mrs. G, Maitland, It was decided to sponsor e religious moving picture "King of Kings" to be shown in the Recreation Hall and a committee under the leadership of Mrs, Milo Martin was asked to take charge of this project. Mrs. G. Maitland, Mrs. H, N. Marsh and Mrs. M. R. Lemon offered to serve on this committee. A suggestion from the Board of Stewards that the Auxiliery serve refreshments at the Community Church Annual Meeting, met with approval and the following ladies volunteered to help with this undertaking: Mrs, David iicDonald, Mrs. Harris, Mrs. McKay, Mrs. Goodfellow Mrs. Maitland and Mrs. Soughton. Mrs. Ostling expressed her thanks to everyone for the excellent co-operation given her, during her term as president, then turned the meeting over to Mrs. Milo Martin for the election of officers for the ensuing year. Mrs. David McDonald gave the report of the nominating committee which was accepted unanimously... The following officers were chosen: President - Mrs. Rune Ostling; Vice-President - Mrs. Marvin Lemon; Secretary - Mrs. H. Goodfellow; Treasurer - Mrs. H, C. Laundy; Conveners - Membership - Mrs. G.
