In the final game, before a crowd which neared the 600 mark, the inspired Comets staged a late-in-the-game rally to overcome a 5 run lead built up by Whammies during the first four innings of play. The break in the game which decided the title came actually in the sixth when Steve Brodack extended a single base hit into a home run through clever base running which had the Whammies completely baffled. When Brodack scored Comets took the lead 6-5 and before the inning had ended Morostica and Brady had also scored to leave no doubt as to the bettcr of the two teams, Late in the season Paul Boudreau took over the coaching chore for Comets and since that time the team has steadily improved. Paul rearrenged players positions and changed the batting order until the team finally emerged with a winning combination, Finishing in third spot in the regular schodulo, the Comets finally edged Hydro in a 2 out of 3 game semi-final series which required an extra game because of a tie, The 3 out of 5 gamo scries with Whamies went four games, with Comets taking credit for three wins end a tie, Wheammies fought hard and deserve a lot of credit. Their sole pitcher "Gabby" Laroque did yeoman service in the box and at bat, Pitching covery game in final playoffs is a he-man's job in ony ball league. In extending congratulations to Comets we would also like to pay special tribute to one of the Comets stalwarts, the player who in our opinion was the best all around ball player and good sport in the entire league this year = Steve Brodack, Steve played con- sistently good ball throughout the season whether his team was winning or otherwise, and --------his-good..sportsmanship would be a credit to any ball team in any league, So hats off to Steve Brodack and the Comets. The Softball Association is very much indebted to all who acted as umpires throughe out the season and would like to take this oppcrtunity of expressing thanks for all services so rendered. The regular schedule and playoffs called for a total of 56 games and what with week- end exhibition games the total number of games actually played during the season exceeded 65. Attendance at these games is conservatively estimated at well over 15,000, And so we ring down the curtain on Terrace Bay's second organized ball season .... but not quite.
