The Editor wishes to thank all those that have helped to make this reeord possible. It is still a problem to put this paper together each week and since nice weather is here we, the Editorial Staff, like to take our leisure time on Sunday afternoon too, But this is not possible when the reporters have not submitted their articles by Saturday noon, So, let's keep up the good work, fellows, but let's go just one step further and have all your news in by Saturday at the Engineering Office or the Personnel Office. We are still hoping to rouse 'Fraser-Brace' out of the doldrums as far as reporting for the 'News' is concerned. Surely there must be one or two of those college men up there who would be interested. We hold a meeting every Wednesday night and if any interested reporters will contact Jim Whyte at the Millsite Engineering Office, he will gladly give you all the dope. -o0o- TEAM WORK SQUELCHES SMALL BRUSH FIRE er ee ee oe eee en 2 ee ee a ne RE Fo Under the able guidance of Fire Chief Jones, a small fire on the east side of the high- way was soon brought under control last Tuesday evening. It was an opportunity for the men of the Fire Department to put into action the fire-fighting methods learned during their practice drills. Fred Jones is justly proud of his men for the systematic way in which this emergency was handled, No sooner had the alarm been sounded than the Chief and his men were on their way and in what seemed no time at all they had a hose directing water on the flames. Genuine team- work was displayed which turned what might have been a serious threat to our town into a successful demonstration of fighting this demon known as "fire", ' During the dry season, from April lst until October 15th, FIRE is our worst enemy, Not only is it the cause of the devastation of Canada's timberland, but it is the cause of the destruction of homes and, subsequently, of man himself, Do not look at the seriousness of forest fires in too light a frame of mind. Think, not only of the damage a fire causes to trees and buildings, but of the effect it has on YOU. And YOU are not alone a victim of fire. Besides the possibility of being out of a job due to a fire, think of the many others who are dependent upon the produetion of pulp for the manufacture of the myriads of finished products, They, too, may lese their job due to minor negligence on your part. Let's all be fire fighters. Whether we are members of the Fire Department or not, let's all be conscious of this menace to our very existence. Be FIRE CONSCIOUS.on and off the job. When in the bush or in Camp, follow these simple but often neglected rules: (1) Deo not smoke while walking or working; (2) Do not smoke "tailor-made" cigarettes; (3) Do not use vrei at use a lighter; (4) Do not build fires for lunches or any other purpose in the bush; (5) Report any fire immediately - - don't attempt to fight it yourself, Remember, if YOU pre start any fires, there wont be any fires in Terrace hey. -o00-
