John Hagglund ; born 1885 in Sweden ; founder of Hagglund's Lumber and Fuel Ltd. ; supplier of building products, pre-fabricated homes and fuel oil ; Leo Koskinen, sales manager presented variety of Scandinavian cheeses ; mayor Walter Assef presented plate and scroll ; Hagglund chose Fort William after reading book about voyageurs ; first job hauling ties on Grand Trunk dock ; carpenter's helper on Grand Trunk Railway ; took course in architectural drawing and design ; married Amanda Johnson ; farmed in South Gillies from 1917 to 1920, operating sawmill ; moved back to Fort William ; started coal and lumber supply operation in 1924 ; bought coal from C.B. Devilin Company and later from James Murphy ; started dispensing fuel oil in 1951 ; photo
