Ted Freeman ; moved to Lakehead in 1935 to help brother Joe run Simpson Hotel ; became business agent of bartender's union ; some members included Walter Assef, Onni Harty and Joe Andrechuk ; elected vice chairman of Fort William Trades and Labor Council ; married Geraldine DeMocko ; Ted tried luck as beer and distillery salesman ; had own shoe store from 1950 to 1965 ; represented Fort William in Ontario legislature ; one-term NDP backbencher ; led by Donald McDonald of Toronto ; John Robarts was premier replacing Leslie Frost
