Continued front Page 1 The Land of the Nipigon Waterways members had approached Nipigon Council earlier for some help with funds. This was explained to the 3 Councils involved and it was agreed to help with maintenance funds. Nipigon would pick up the larger portion of the $1000 request. Along with this discussion came the need for Ruby Lake Park development, which has not been set out yet with any specific yes or no developments, but will allow trails in most areas. Chief Pelletier mentioned that the Band has not received any information on the Park and there is a concern because the First Nation trap lines go through the park, from the highway to the lake. A letter will go to MTO asking for the status of the highway resurfacing that was done last summer, in the Loon Lake area. It appears it is not complete so the next phase cannot yet be put out for tender. There are many issues with the lighting for the Nipigon Bridge. Last year Minister Donna Cansfield visited the site and was all set to push for lighting and reflective stripping. Once the ministers changed position, nothing happened and the issue is now being pushed again. Apparently the tender for the work on the highway, from the bridge to Jackfish, was to include the lighting and did not, raising questions of who and when it would it be done? The other concern involved the lack of clearing snow from the sidewalk on the bridge by the contractor, with some people actually walking on the highway to cross the bridge! Chief Pelletier stated this is now being dealt with and the snow will be removed as it comes. This anonymous information does not have to be only on unsolved crime but also on drug trafficking, the recovery of stolen property, the location of wanted persons, information on missing persons, wild game being illegally taken, or even the prevention of a crime taking place. The size of rewards paid out by Crime Stoppers is determined by a number of factors, including, the seriousness of the crime involved, the number of arrests made, if there were any, the amount of drugs seized, the amount of stolen property recovered, how detailed was the information, was the information beneficial to police, etc. The maximum reward on any one tip is set at $2,000.00 and this is certainly reserved for a very serious case such as homicide, a robbery, or a significant drug seizure. But please remember, your information is anonymous. At no time will you be asked to identify yourself, nor will you be asked for any information that could potentially identify you, the caller. depot was turned down because of the lack of support. Red Rock Councillor Kal Pristanski informed everyone that the rebuilding of the OPP detachment offices has been moved up to #1 on the priority list. Armstrong had been at the top but it’s being reworked to include other government offices. There was no timeline given but it was also noted that a new shingle roof was just put on the detachment last week! Work is also being done on the regional Economic Diversification study, to show the need and the possibilities.
