Tuesday, January 15th, 2007 Nipigon-Red Rock Gazette Page 5 Bantam Girls Hockey Wins Award The Bantam Girls hockey team in Red Rock has been selected as the winner of the Wayne Gretzky Foundation Team Canada Program for 2007 in our branch. This program, now in it’s fourth year, rewards and recognizes thirteen minor hockey teams in Canada for the amount of heart they show rather than the amount of games they win. An essay was submitted with our application for the award to describe our girls, staff, and contributions. Our team has a special bunch of girls that are always up for a challenge and are happy to help each other at all times. One team from each division in Canada is selected as a recipient and receives the following package to help support future team development: Team Canada jerseys and hockey bags bearing the Wayne Gretzky Foundation Logo, new sticks, a coaching volunteer package, and $1,999 for team development. We, the team’s staff, are so proud of each and every one of the girls on their efforts, dedication and contributions to our team. On behalf of the coaching staff I would like to say, ‘congratulations to all of you on your team spirit and the success of your award.’ We are also pleased to mention that Red Rock is hosting a Bantam Girls and Midget Girls tournament this weekend, January 18-20, in Red Rock and three games will be played in Nipigon. The team is coached by Jim Hendreicken with assistants Danny Saunders, Brad Kroker, and Broc Salminen, managed by Karen Salminen and trainers are Karen Salminen and Cheryl Hendricken.
