Game time is 2 p.m. SUBWAY TAX PROBLEMS KEEP SCHREIBER BUSY Two thorny problems came a little closer to being solved at the monthly meeting of Schreiber council last week. The first has to do with the subway under the CPR tracks, a narrow roadway that separates the town. Reeve D'Arcy reported that he had been in contact with Schreiber CPR officials and they had given him their assurance they would contact head office in Montreal in regard to possible changes that might make the subway safer for pedestrians, motorists and school children. The second problem is an old one faced by most towns at this time of the year . . . unpaid taxes. The question of collecting taxes on a quarterly basis was brought forth and discussed. It was decided to study the matter thoroughly with an eye to possibly putting this system into effect for the collection of 1962 taxes. A letter was read from the Hon. George Wardrope, M. P. P., stating that he would recommend to the Minister of Highways that the highway west of Walkers Lake to Schreiber be paved the full width. The Fire department requested and received permission to increase the volunteer fire brigade from 12 to 16 members. The Chamber: * Decided to complain to council about unsightly property throughout the township and ask for a general cleanup. * Sought property at the Western entrance of town on which to place the neon sign publicizing the town. * Decided to again give prizes for the best decorated property at Christmas time as well as for the best snow man. Art Durocher made the motion to write to council about unsightly property throughout the township. The meeting felt there should be a concerted effort to clean up all business properties especially. Frank Zayette and Art Durocher reported that solid progress had been made on the erection of the lighted signs on either side of the town on highway 17. The sign coming in from the East will be situated three miles out of town. It will read "Nipigonâ€"Three miles on left. Population 3,000." The chamber is seeking property on the other end and will meet with council over this. Mr. Durocher is to get an estimate on the cost of the sign. It was decided to give prizes of $15, $10 and $5 for the best decorated house and the same for the best snowman. Also, on a motion by Earl Young, it was decided that Christmas store hours would be as follows: Open To Hear Talk On Children's Aid Herbert Dawson of the Port Arthur Children's Aid Society, will speak to the public in Nipigon Council Chambers on Tuesday, November 29, at 8 p.m. Organization representatives of service clubs, churches and lodges as well as civic officials and the public are urged to attend. The purpose of Mr. Dawson's talk is to provide the people of Nipigon, Red Rock and Cameron Falls with information regarding the work of the Children's Aid Society in adoptions and other welfare problems and to enlist the support of local people in connection with local Children's Aid problems. until 9 p.m. from Monday to Friday the week before Christmas; closed at 5:30 p.m. Christmas eve; closed Monday and Tuesday of the following week. Florien Zechner reminded all members that nomination day for town offices will be held Monday evening and suggested that the chamber should have a good representation at this meeting. A financial report showed only one paid up member (the new year started in October) and a bank balance of $567.86. Allan Hannula was appointed the new chairman of the membership committee. Fees are $10 for business and $5 for non-business members. A nomination committee consisting of Frank Zayette, Art Durocher, Eric Shuck-smith, Ben Long and Allan Assad was struck to help bring in the 1961 executive. A letter, composed by Art Durocher, has been forwarded to the Minister oi the Department of Lands and Forest complaining about the neglect by government and business of lakes and rivers in this area for fishing. There were 18 members present. THE HOTEL NORMANDIE . .
