10 NORSHORE SENTINEL â€"THURSDAY, OCTOBER 20, 1960 TERRACE BAND WANTS MEMBERS STARTED WITH FIVE FOUNDERS Since its inception in September 1959, the Terrace Bay Band has grown from an original nucleus of five founders to its present size of some 20 playing members. During this period, old players have improved their playing, and new members have been trained in both reading music and playing a specific instrument. The band is a completely independent organization, bound by a constitution, and supporting itself financially through membership fees and money from playing engagements. The new band executive wishes to publicly acknowledge several unsolicited donations over the past year. These contributions are most welcome and have added much to the band. Nipigon Elks clubâ€"twelve music stands, two alto horns, two baritone horns, two tubas, one side snare drum, one tenor slide trombone, two cymbals, assortment of band music. Schreiber Lions clubâ€"two new alto horns, one dance band drum set. Terrace Bay Recreation associationâ€"one base drum. Terrace Bay Kiwanis club â€" $25.00 cash. Private instrument donations â€" one drum set (base and traps), one tenor horn. The primary objective of the band is to provide an outlet for musical expression and appreciation. To this end the organization is continually looking for new members, with or without musical background. In this way, the band will serve as a training ground for musicians at the same time that it provides a service to the community. The band is presently made up; of residents of Terrace Bay and Schreiber. It is hoped, however, to eventually serve more than this immediate area, and to extend the field of service to the entire North Shore. It may be well to note here that the band is currently under the leadership of a fully qualified bandmaster, Alf Bishop. Alf brings to Terrace Bay a tremendous backlog of musical knowledge and experience, and is a great asset to the band. Services are presently available to the North Shore area, and any group interested in hiring the band should submit a request in writing to the Secretary, Bob Hales, at least ten days before the engagement. The band is now in a position to welcome interested members into the band. There is a surplus of instruments over players and the band would like to fill in the ranks as soon as possible.
