- S. A. "Al" Cheesman ; prominent name of 20th century aviation ; born St. John, N.B. in 1900 ; began work as mechanic in 1914 ; later going to Boston for course in engineering and electricity ; hired on as engineer with Aero-Marine Airways in Detroit ; joined Ontario Provincial Air Service in Sault Ste. Marie as mechanic ; went to Camp Borden for pilot training in 1926 ; married Eva Greer of Sault Ste. Marie ; crossed over northern Ontario and Manitoba many times ; credited with saying God is my co-pilot ; came to Port Arthur in 1931 ; elected as alderman ; member of the Explorer's Club ; Elks, Rotarian, Knights of Pythias, Scottish Rite of the Masonic order ; photo
