Tuesday, December 20, 1960 NORSHORE SENTINEL 7 Dorion - Hurkett Happenings December 10th marked the 35th wedding anniversary of] Mr. and Mrs. R. Aylward of; Hurkett. For the occasion their children put on a family party for them. Mr. and Mrs. Aylward are the parents of eleven children. Robert and David of Fort William, Peggy of Port Arthur, Brian of Manitoba, Melvin of Sault Ste Marie, Gordon of Nipigon and Walter, Glenn, Leslie, Arnold and Allan at home. They have eleven grandchildren. Mr. Aylward is known to all his friends as Skipper. Always a jolly man every time you meet skipper you can be sure he,ll have some little story to tell you to keep you laughing. For their anniversary their family presented them with a transistor radio and a tea service. Peggy, Pauline and June Aylward prepared the lunch and served the wedding cake which was topped by a 35. The Christmas tea and bazaar sponsored by the Hurkett Women’s Institute netted $41. The hall was decorated in Christmas colors with a Christmas tree decorated at the front. Taking care of the bake table was Mrs. M. Boyko and Mrs. L. Dupuis. Mrs. M. Fio Rioto presided over the sewing and knitted goods. In charge of the kitchen arrangements were Mrs. E. Deliff, Mrs. T. Holtzman, |Mrs. L. Dupuis and Mrs. M. Boyko. Mr. B. Aylward of Hurkett has returned home after spending several months at Savant Lake where he was employed. Mrs. Jameson of Vancouver spent a holiday in Hurkett with her sister and brother-in-law Mr. and Mrs. L Nuttall Mrs. I. Geroff of Hurkett, has returned home after under going surgery in Port Arthur hospital. George Tergie, Bill Boyko, Russel Cates, Bill Wood, Al Holder, Pat Shea, Louise and Doris Magnusson, Francis and Claudette Colombe, Pat Wood, Dianne Wychopen and Wilma Holder attended a birthday party for Thelma Holtzman held Saturday night It was Thelma’s 15th birthday. The evening was enjoyed by dancing. Lunch was served by Myrna Holtzman and Wilma Holder. Looking over the Tweedsmuir History Book made by the members of the Ouimet -Dorion Women’s Institute and re minising old times were the senior citizens who attended the senior citizenship tea held in the community hall on Wednesday afternoon. Due to a lot of illness in the community there were only ten senior citizens present those being A. Bohler, B. Sears, H. Peacock, W. Zellars, J. Kay and F. Tyler, Mesdames, I. Atkinson, A. Harris, B. Renaud, H. McKin-and O. Obergh. For the annual occasion the hall was gaily decorated in Christmas colors with a lighted Christmas tree in the front. The tea tables were centred by a decorated snowman. On the head table was a centrepiece of cedar bows, colored acorns and tinsel. President Mrs. M. Swanson greeted the senior citizens and presented each one with a box of homemade cookies. Serving the tables were Mrs. H. Atkinson, Mrs. A. Watty Mrs. M. Gregory and Mrs. B. Swanson. Mrs. E. Renaud poured tea. Kitchen duties were done by Mrs. M. Tolmonen, Mrs. M. Sobkowick Mrs . J. Harris , Mrs . W. Schaaf and Mrs. M. Albertson. During the afternoon, Rosa;-lee and Stan Ellis showed movies on happenings in Dorion and some of their trips. A door prize donated by Mrs . M. Gregory was won by Anton Bohler. The program planning was done by the branch directors, Mrs. E. Renaud, Mrs. M. Gregory and Mrs. J. Harris. Mr. E. Swanson has been appointed new trustee member for the Improvement District of Dorion. In bed after a bad fall is P. Broughton of Dorion. We are all wishing you a speedy recovery Mr. Broughton. Anyone wishing to have their child join the Do-Sa-Do Club at Dorion is to notify Mrs. M. Jorgenson by Dec 31. Brown is President Of Red Rock Legion John Brown was elected president of the Red Rock Legion last week succeeding Ed Kotzma. St.Peter’s Holds Christmas Bazaar St. Peter’s Church Red Rock held a successful Christmas bazaar Wednesday, Dec. 7 from 8 to 10 PM with a large crowd attending The traditional Christmas tree was the focal point of the decorations. St. Matthew’s, Dorion also had a lovely display of handiwork and baking. Convenors were Mrs. L. Kurliak and Mrs Keith: Mrs. N. May hew welcomed guests. Mrs. D Marchant looked after tickets. Sewing and knitting convenors were Mrs. B. Clarke and Mrs. B. Lord. Surprise table - Mrs. S. Gaulin; bake table - Mrs. M. Fearon, and Mrs . A. Brotchie, kitchen, Mesdames M. Finlay son, E. Bull, M. Gow, J. Farrell, M. Abbott, L. West-gate. Servitors were Misses Sandra Craigie, Mary Reed, Francis Griffin, Barb Brotchie, Brenda Rajala, Geraldine Bull, Mrs. E. McCanna and Mrs. A. Stevenson.
