Tuesday, December 20, 1960 NORSHORE SENTINEL 5 CAMERON FALLS CALLING By MARION LAKE One of the most dramatic arguments in favor of the validity of Christianity is the Christmas Spirit which for us seems to be somehow mysteriously centred around the knees. A sceptic would dismiss it as "sick sent â€" imentality, ’; a theologian would honor it as "the true Christmas Spirit"; we treasure it as a truly "Merry Christmas.’’ Cameron Falls little people ushered in the season with their own "Candlelight Service", Sunday afternoon sponsored by the United and Anglican Church Sunday School. The service, conducted entirely by the children led by Lynn Keown, was divided into sections, each section ending with the lighting of a candle. Accompaniment was supplied by Mrs. Ralph Hansen and our new organ. The leader was Miss Lynn Keown, the sermon or story was given by Miss Barbara Campbell. Opening hymns were by the older boys and girls choir. The solos followed punctuated by the lighting of the candles. The "Prophet’s Story" was done by Elaine Saarela, "The Annunciation" by Susan Scott, "The Story of Bethlehem" by Linda White. "The Little Road to Bethlehem" by Mrs. Jones and Mrs. Leach’s class, *The Nativity" by Russel Cooper, "Away in a Manger" by Mrs. Mason’s, Mrs. Pybus’ and Miss Keown’s classes. "The Shepherd’s Story" by Miss Campbell’s class and "The Wise Man’s Story" by the older children in Mr. Jones and Miss Mott’s classes. Red Rock Holds Candlelight Service A capacity congregation of well over 200 was enraptured by the Candlelight Service held at the United Church, Red Rock, The Christmas story was unfolded in the seven scripture readings and carols which make up the annual event. Linda Young was in charge of the program. The Red Rock Junior Choir under me direction of Mrs. M. Weryho provided the choral offerings. They were assisted by the Sunday School choir under the direction of Cheryl Billingsly. Organist was John Swanton. A trio of Wise Men, Gordon Morrow, William Swanton and G. McDonald also took part. Taking as his text "The Search for Christmas†David Morrow preached the sermon. The offering prayer was made by David Keown and the offering was taken up by Arthur Hodges and David Keown. The candles were effectively set among fir boughs on a long table at the front of the church. Lighting the candles at intervals were Elaine Saarela, Susan Scott, Linda White, Russel Cooper, Jo-Anne Walker, Virginia Bishop and Lynn Keown. The executive meeting of the Community Club was held on Dec. 13 at the hall. Pres -ent at the meeting were Lloyd Bishop,Raljh Hansen, Stan Koral, Mary McKinnon, Lou Paju and June Haig. The financial report showed a balance of $78.00 in the treasury. Among other things, the New Year’s Eve dance was discussed in full. Tickets this year will be $3.00 a person which is more than last year when we didn’t even make expenses. Discussion of the buffet supper versus crackers and cheese etc. resulted in a decision to have just snack type food for this year at least as the upstairs room is not available for setting out a buffet. Lloyd Bishop, chairman of the school board, offered the school for Church Services the next day. OPEN WED. THURS. and FRIDAY ’TIL 9 PM SATURDAY 'TIL 5. 30 PM What do you give a young man?
