Tuesday December 20, 1960 NORSHORE SENTINEL 8 BARATTA FEELS MERKS CAPABLE - ROGER HARVEY CAUTIOUS Two of the four coaches in the North Shore Hockey league give their impression: below, on how the league is going to end up this season. Next week Dave Whalen ol Terrace Bay and Marshall Borsk of Nipigon will offer their impressions. TONY BARATTA MARATHON COACH Well it looks like we’re in for another great year in the North Shore league. Fronc what I’ve seen and especial ly after this past weekend, I think it has all the earmarks of another close race. I’m happy with the way the rookies are shaping up and when they get a little more confidence in themselves and more polish around the net I’m sure they’re going to raise a lot of eyebrows. This along with Billy DeLuca now back, Ed Bolan and Johnny Kosolotvskiboth coming back is going to make us pretty tough. In fact, barring any serious injuries I don’t see why we can’t repeat again this year. It’s going to be tough but I’m confident my boys can do it. How’s the league going to end up? Marathon, Terrace Bay, Red Rock and Nipigon. by ROGER HARVEY Red Rock Royal Coach The North Shore Hockey league is now in full swing and Royals have been picked for last place. Well maybe that’s a good spot and I sure don’t mind because I don’t believe in building castles without good foundations. All the other teams are suppose to be strong enough to walk away with it but let me tell you that in this league you can’t predict anything. Ask Terrace Bay, they know. We have an advantage in that we are in good shape. But the big thing about the Royals this year, as in the past, is their spirit. Sunday’s game was a good indication of that. They always play better when the going is rough and that’s why it takes a brave person to pick them for any basement spot. The Royals will play good, fast hockey. If that’s not enough then good luck to the visitors. I’ve been with the North Shore league since the beginning and without taking anything away from the other teams, beating Marathon Mercuries is always an honor to me. They never give up. (Best of luck, Tony.) We hope we can have the honor often this year. One thing I would like to see is good honest officiating. As far as I’m concerned that’s 50percent of the game. Most of the players are married and can’t afford to risk injury caused by lack of control of the game. My boys are told not to talk to them on the ice unless they are the captain. I certainly hope the other coaches will do the same thing, because that’s one thing which, to my mind hurts the game. I will not make any prediction for one simple reason we’ve had our spot picked for us already, the basement. Any improvement over that will be just fine. But you other coaches, don’t expect to walk away with it! The Women’s .Curling Club of Schreiber held their first meeting of the season in the Club Rooms on Dec. 11 The president Mrs. R.
