The Volunteer Firemen of the town had a busy morning one day last week, being called out to two fires. One was due to a child playing with matches and as a result a mattress was ruined. The other was an indirect result of frozen pipes in a small home which had been vacated the previous day. The resulting fire caused an explosion which blew out one wall and part of the roof. Luckily no one was injured. The lack of snow seems to be causing headaches to many householders. With no snow to bank the houses, water pipes are freezing constantly. Of course, this provides a lot of work for the town’s thawing machine and a source of entertainment for the young who love the sight and sound of a machine. COMING EVENTS A card party will be held Feb. 3 in the Town Hall sponsored by the C.W.L. Shrove Tuesday Tea - Feb. 14 in St. John’s Anglican Church basement from 3-5 p.m. sponsored by St. John’s W.A.
