"Printing offices of Port Arthur Daily Sentinel, not long before I came in Autumn 1884, on Lorne Street, opposite present News Chronicle. Standing in doorway probably C.J. Stilwell, my predecessor; at extreme right, lame old man who used to sell papers; next to him, Charles H. Clarke (chief reporter, brother of E.F. Clarke, old time Toronto M.P.) and his wife. Fourth from the left was Dudley T. Fairbairn, my immediate successor in Autumn 1885 on leaving."
