AND THE RECTOR'S TALK WAS ENJOYED BY ALL It is safe to say that without the work of the women of this parish there would be no St. John's as we know it. From the earliest days of the church they have worked unceasingly and without complaint to do what had to be done to keep the church going. Their work is often financial and it was ever thus! The old bricks of St. John's were bought by the Women's Auxiliary. No doubt many of the new bricks, when they are in place will be there because of the Anglican Church Women. The most complete set of records St. John's possesses are the old Minute Books of the W.A. Month by month, year by year they record the activities, concerns and achievements of the ladies of the parish. All through the twenties, thirties and forties we read of entertainments and fundraisers that were held and, with clock-work regularity, entries appear specifying money paid for coal, power and operating expenses of the church. The ladies visited the sick, helped the unfortunate, supported their sister organizations and worked continuously for St. John's. The church owes them a great deal! Sometimes the Minute Books tell more than they intended as in this entry for December, 1932: The election of officers resulted in the three retiring officers being re-elected. The Rector, in a few brief remarks stressed the importance of growth and progress in any organization. Sometimes emotions surface as in this entry from 1955: Received a letter from the Quaker Oat Co. on "How to stage a Pancake Supper." The Secretary to answer same, and inform them we have staged Pancake Suppers for over 50 years. Sometimes the entries just make you smile as in this 1952 offering: Mrs. Arnot to phone to roast turkeys also Mrs. Jacomb. St. John's Anglican Church - 28
