- Black and white photograph of the Banff Winter Carnival. The back of the photograph reads "Shown in this picture is the carnival queen and others who competed in a contest for Queen of the 1943 Banff Winter Carnival. Misses Mary and Jane Rutton, centre right of back row, carried Lakehead colours in the contest. Never before in carnival history had two sisters, let alone two twin sisters, competed for the carnival crown, Miss Mary Ruttan, left was 'Miss Fort William', and Miss Jane Ruttan was 'Miss Port Arthur'. Shown in the centre of the picture is Queen Patricia Whiting of Winnipeg, who opened the 26th annual carnival from her throne in the ice palace erected for carnival week. Other queen nominees represented Oregon, Manitoba, Edmonton and Calgary. The Wolf Cubs are the Carnival Queen's personal guard. In the foreground are representatives of the Mounted Police and Scottish dancers who contributed to the carnival program."
