- Commercial fishing in Jackfish was a thriving industry, right from before the 1880's to the early 1950's. These very old photographs (reproductions from the original) depict typical activities of the fishermen there in the earliest days. Above: Fred and Ben Almos clean a good days catch after having been out on Lake Superior since sun-up. Below: Hundreds of feet of nets are hung to dry. Note the dark wood hand-oiled floaters dotting the nets, and in the background, the old (first) water tower for the CPR. Both pictures taken 1894.
