Terrace Bay Band Organized
Although our town may be bursting at the seams with various clubs and sporting activities, there is always room for something new.
Six or seven months ago, Bert Lohr, Ken Hutchinson, Bill Farrell and Bill Colbourne met to discuss the merits of organizing a band. They decided there were many events throughout the year like field days and Armistice Day services where a band would be an asset.
Confronted with the problem of getting musicians with some experience and acquiring instruments and music, they began organizing the band. It was not long before this group of four expanded to 14 members with instruments and a library of music.
One of the members of this group was Art Hannuala of Schreiber. Art at one time had been a professional bandmaster and also knew where some used band instruments could be procured. Through an organization in Nipigon, Ontario, eight instruments were loaned. Local groups donated monies to purchase music while others helped to procure more instruments.
All of the members had previous musical experience so it was not long before the group made its first public appearance playing at the local hockey games.
Within the group there is a trumpet quartet that handles the specialty numbers and a "brass choir" is being formed. This group also has undertaken to train junior members and hopes that before long it will have a 20 to 25-piece band.

AUBREY BOUTILIER, a pulp loader in the service department, celebrated his 7th birthday Feb. 29. Aubrey says he always has a real celebration because he does not celebrate except on Leap Year. He has a twin sister who, of course, also celebrated her 7th birthday.
