SS Rapids Queen was originally owned by the Richelieu & Ontario Navigation Co. previously named SS Columbian and SS Brockville. The 1892 steamer was rebuilt in 1909 and renamed Rapids Queen for service down the rapids of the St. Lawrence River from Prescott to Montreal. In 1929 the 38 year old steamer was sold to Sincennes McNaughton Tugs Ltd. of Montreal. In 1933 she was chartered out for service on Lake Superior between Fort William and Isle Royale, but made only three trips in that season. For the remainder of that season and 1934 it was reported to be laid up at Fort William and in 1935 it was removed to Toronto.
