Nipigon 29 '3 '66 Jussila's Bantams Win Hockey League By GLENA CLEARWATER Thursday evening, March 24, Jussila's bantam's coached by Vic Dahl Jr., won the Hudson Bay trophy, by defeating the Legion team three games to one, in a five game final. Three teams of bantams have been competing in scheduled play; the Canadiens, from Cameron Falls, and two Nipigon teams, one sponsored by the Legion and one by Jussila department store. In the semi-finals, Jussila's team and the Canadiens played the best out of three, with Jussila's winning the second and third in very close games. In the finals, a five-game play-off, Jussila's played the Legion, with Jussila's winning the first two games 6-3 and 6-2; the Legion came back in the third to win 6-4, but due mainly to outstanding goal tending by Donald Berube of the Jussila's, they took their third win 6-2 from the Legion. President of the Minor Hockey League Larry Crawford presented the Hudson Bay trophy to the winners. In league play, Sam Sobush was the leading scorer, with 43 points, followed at a safe distance by Martin with 30 points, and completing the top ten, were Larry Donaldson, and Lyle Rajala each with 27; Larry Douglas 25; Dale Hilliard, 19; Pierre Pelletier 17; Andrew Imbeault 16, Roddy Renaud 15 and Larry Ruoho 13. If statistics are interesting to some, this league has it. Out of the 12 league games, Legion won 9, Canadiens won 6, and Jessila's "the cellar dwellers" won three - but even so and with only one of their players in the top ten scorers, they came out on top in the semi and the finals. Nipigon 30 '3 '66 Transient Welfare Cost Down By GLENA CLEARWATER Nipigon's Transient Welfare committee held their initial meeting of the year recently with election of officers as follows: Pastor M. Kaija, president; Rev. K. Gibbs, vice-president; Doris Mclnnis, secretary-treasurer. Other members are Rev. M Skibinski, Rev. F. Meyer, OPP Constable Dean Jones, welfare officer and Mrs. G. Gordon council representative. Frank Wheeler is auditor. A report on meal tickets given out for 1965 showed a decrease of 60 from 1964, down to 174 from 234. Mr. Jones felt that this was because the police are becoming a bit stricter and during the winter months there were few transients. The only other business involved checking over the financial statement. The next meeting is to be held in the fall.
