Roger Longe, was the grandson of NWC trader Joseph Lange (b. 1784 Sorel, Quebec) who was in the North West from 1804 to 1821. Joseph had a contract marriage with Isabelle Colin possible daughter of Joseph Colin, a trader in the area at the time. Joseph, Isabelle and family moved with the HBC to work in the Lake Huron District of the HBC in 1821 and settled there. Rogers's father, Jean-Baptiste Lange/Longe was born 1861 at Southampton, Ontario. Jean-Baptiste return to the Lac La Plume and raised a large family in at the Lake of the Worods. Roger was dog-sleding on Lac Seul - familiar to his family since the about 1804.
