NORSHORE SENTINEL Thursday, January 12, 1961 BEARDMORE BRIEFS By Eleanor Nylund The windup week of 1960 saw several house parties, the Legion party, which this year was a Pre-New Year's Eve party on Friday rather than the usual New Year's Eve party, and the Holiday party at the Curling club, sponsored by the Ladies Curling Club take place. The Legion Party was convened by Orville Harvey, assisted by Jack O'Brien, deputy zone commander, who during the evening introduced the incoming president to the gathering. Lunch was convened and served by Mrs. O. Harvey, Mrs. H. Bird and Mrs. J. Stevens. Gay decorations, hats and favours added to the frivolity of the evening. Buzz Lein and his orchestra provided music for dancing. Mr. and Mrs. A. Kuzik were feted at a combined New Year's Eve and Housewarming at their new home on Pearl Street by many of their friends. The party was organized by Mrs. R. Sequin and Mrs. W. Harnden. Mrs. Sequin presented the happy couple with a magazine rack and a gold and crystal dip set, on behalf of those present. Among the guests were Mr. and Mrs. J. McConnell who were celebrating their first wedding anniversary. They too were presented with a traditional gift. Mr. and Mrs. A. Dampier entertained neighbours at a New Year's Eve party, Guests in Beardmore during the Holiday week included Mr. and Mrs. J. Wabick of Neepawa, Man., who visited their sons, Paul and Leonard; Diane Salem from Port Arthur and Bill Salem from Queen's University, Kingston, who were visiting their father, A. Salem; Rosaire Grenier and family of Port Arthur were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Roland Grenier; Gordon Pearson, Carl Stillwell and Bonnie Bennett, all of the Lakehead were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. W. Stillwell; Mr. and Mrs. E. Chedore and sons Alvin and Marcel, Port Arthur were guests at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. Nolet; Mr. and Mrs. Mel Jones, Port Arthur who were visiting Mel's mother in Geraldton and their many friends in Beardmore; Mrs. R.L. Tansley, Port Arthur, who was a guest at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Wra. Sinclair, Tansleyville. Mr. and Mrs. T. Ferland, their daughter Mary and Roger LaVoie visited Mrs. J. Poirier and Mrs. L. Bourdages in Port Arthur during the holidays. Mr LaVoie was later called home to attend the funeral of his father at Cabano, Quebec. Friends in Beardmore were saddened to hear of the recent death of Capt. Jack Allen j first captain of the St. Lawrence boat, John I. Rankin. Mr. and Mrs. Allen have been residing in Collingwood. Word was received Tuesday, Jan. 3 of the death of Mrs. A. Sinclair, mother of Walter and Stan Sinclair, at the Lakehead Mrs. Sinclair had just returned from Beaudette, Minnesota, on Dec. 30 where she had been visiting her son, Norman and his family. Miss Lorraine McKechnie entertained many of her teenage friends at a New Year's Eve party on Saturday. The Jolly Hoedowners, of Beardmore, held their year-end party on Friday enjoying several lively squares and I games. Callers were Norm Kilbom, Jules Banman, Geo. McKay and John Banman. The mid-night buffet lunch was supervised by Mrs. G. McKay Mrs. N. Kilborn, Mrs. John 'Banman and Mrs. Jules Ban-man. Mr. and Mrs. G. Gowan and Mr. and Mrs. C. Wahl were welcomed back. Five teenage square dancers have now joined the Jolly Hoedowners. It is hoped that the Junior Square Dance Club will resume its activities in 1 January. The group will likely meet on Mondays, 6:30 to 8 p.m. The Hoedowners hope to take a teen age square to the next festival.
