2 NORSHORE SENTINEL Thursday, January 12, 1961 Nipigon Notes There is little chance of a police woman ever finding a place on the OPP staff in Nipigon. The young OPP constables have the jobs all sewed up for the next 50 years anyway on a special family plan. Four constables have become father in the last font months and their record stands at 5â€"0, five boys and no girls. The latest and the proudest is Constable Bob Little whose wife Marilyn gave birth to twin boys on Saturday, to the complete surprise of everyone including Marilyn. Other proud papas of late have been Constables Dean Jones, Al Armstrong and Gordon Gaudry. One father who just shakes his head at the thought of twins is Guy Rushton, who is having trouble enough changing diapers for his wee new son with the aid of rubber gloves and a surgical mask. "Believe it or not!†A Stork Shower was held at the home of Mrs. Raili Clark on Thursday evening evening in honor of Mrs. Marilyn Little. Co-hostess at the miscellaneous shower was Mrs. Lenore Jones. Mrs. Little was presented with many lovely gifts. Those present were Doris Mclnnis, Laura Wade, Pat Huntns, Nora Peters, Linda Cochrane, Hilda Coulthard, Olga Culbert, and Gaye Broughton. Mr. and Mrs. Ken Hambly of Bradford motored to Nipigon to spend Christmas with Mrs. Hambly’s parents, Mr. and Mrs. A.J. Stewart. Visiting with Sam and Alice Barden over the holidays were Mr. and Mrs. Owen Neil and family of Sault Ste. Marie, and Mr. and Mrs. Matt Maja of Nakusp, B.C. Both girls are Sam's daughters. A going away party was held on New Year's Eve in the Nipigon United Church hall for Barry and Margaret Borthistle, who left Tuesday for Pine Falls where Barry has been transferred with the Hudson's Bay Co. Peggy Matchett of the Hi C group was in charge of the entertainment which included numbers by Judy Blanchette. A combined gift of a table lamp from the Sunday School, Hi C and Board of Stewards was presented by Johnny Sharp to the Borthisties for their very active participation in church functions. Lunch was served by the W.A, assisted by the Hi-C group as servitors. Mr. and Mrs. Ray Kellet have left for Pine Falls where Ray has been transferred with the Hudson's Bay Co. Taking Ray's place in the Meat Dept, is Dwayne Fogerheim of Manitouadge. Dwayne will quite likely be playing with the Flyers once he is back "in shape." Mr. and Mrs. Leo Lespi will be leaving shortly for a two month vacation in the United States. Janet MacLeod was an unfortunate young lady last week when in a fall while skating she pulled a ligament in her ankle. An operation on Monday morning was necessary. The Thunder Bay Unit of the Cancer Society wishes to announce that Memoriam Cards are now available to anyone wishing to contribute to the Cancer Fund in memory of a loved one. The cards, to be sent to the bereaved family, are available from Jessie Gentile or the Cochrane Funeral Home. Receipts are also available for Income Tax purposes. Group 3 of Nipigon United Church held their first meeting of die New Year at the home of Mrs. O. Milne on Tuesday, Jan. 3. Mrs. Opal Hannula, the convenor chaired the meeting. The devotional was read by Mrs. Ruth Young. Mrs. Bernice Laurila presented the study book. Plans were made for a Valentine Bake Sale to be held on Feb. 11. A special project of the group this month will be a Coffee Break to be held Fri. Jan. 20 in the lower hall from 7 to 10 p.m. Coffee and pie will be served. The next meeting will be held at the home of Mrs. Phyllis Jones on Feb. 7. Movie Review Plaza Theatre Manager Nick Vickruck is still shaking his head over the fact that the movie "Ocean's 11†was unable to be presented last week. Unfortunately the booking company in Winnipeg billed the same movie at the same time as for a theatre in Saskatchewan, an oddity which happens very seldom. There has been so much talk about the picture, audiences will be looking for its return billing. Two big shows are coming to the Plaza in the next week, both top bills. The first is "Portrait in Black†starring Lana Turner, Anthony Quinn, Sandra Dee and John Saxon plus many other leading' performers. The story deals with the murder of bedridden Lloyd Nolan by his wife, Lana Turner and her lover, Anthony Quinn, a doctor. Crime and passion, skillfully combined against a background of glamour and brilliantly capped by one of the most sensational twists the screen has ever seen will alternately shock and thrill you. The second top bill in Cinemascope and Eastman color is â€Strangers When We Meet†starring Kirk Douglas Kim Novak, Ernie Kovacs and Barbara Rush, which will play at the Plaza on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday. Coming Attractions: "Thunder in the Sun†with Susan Hayward and Jeff Chandler, and a special drama that rates with any you'll see this year .or any year, "The Trap†starring Richard Widmark, Tina Louise and Lee J. Cobb. We'll gladly recommend this one, especially if you're a Widmark fan !
