Dorion-Hurkett Happenings By Anna Larocque The Hurkett Community Centre is a well known sight i to many of the folks in the surrounding district. The centre first came into being some 10 years ago. The folks of Hurkett decided a skating rink was in great demand in the area. A committee was formed. Since then each year a little work is done to better the sight. An open meeting is held every spring when the folks are asked to bring their complaints and suggestions and a new committee is called. This year the rink has been greatly extended in size and is much better lighted. Much more work is still to be done. For instance there is a shack to be erected when the time and money can be had. The rink was officially opened this season on Jan. 7. Now you can see many activities going on there. There are hockey games, broomball games, pee wee hockey, skating and we must not forget our big "Carnival Day†which is held at the end of the skating season. Mr. and Mrs. Hugo Stenlund of Hurkett celebrated their 41st wedding anniversary on Dec. 22. They are the parents of five sons, Holger, Oscar and Erling of Red Rock , Henry of Dorion and Victor of Hurkett. For the occasion all their sons along with their wives dropped in to wish them happiness. A bake sale will be held on Sunday, Jan 15 at the rink shack. A draw for a fruit cake will also take place. The time is from 2 to 5 p.m. Dorion has two new members on its teaching staff. They are Miss Elsie Milne and Mr. Reynolds. ST.
