Thursday, January 5, 1961 NORSHORE SENTINEL 5 The Challenge SINCE THE EARLY DAYS OF NIPIGON WHEN LORD SELKIRK PURCHASED A LARGE TRACT OF LAND HERE BECAUSE HE FELT THE AREA HAD GREAT POTENTIAL, NIPIGON HAS BEEN TALKED OF AS A TOWN “READY TO BOOM.” AT THE JUNCTION OF TWO HIGHWAYS, ON TWO RAILROADS AND PRAISED AS A POSSIBLE SEAPORT, THE TOWN HAS ALL THE QUALIFICATIONS FOR SUCCESS BUT HAS NEVER QUITE REACHED ITS PREDICTED FUTURE. THIS THEN IS THE CHALLENGE OF NIPIGON AS WE HEAD INTO A NEW AND BRIGHT YEAR. LET US ALL WORK TOGETHER TO MAKE 1961 NIPIGON'S YEAR OF PROGRESS, ITS YEAR OF FULFILLMENT. IT’S YOUR MOVE, NOW! LET EVERY CITIZEN RESOLVE TO TAKE A MORE ACTIVE INTEREST IN TOWN AFFAIRS BEGINNING WITH MONDAY NIGHT’S NOMINATION MEETING AND CONTINUING ON THROUGHOUT THE YEAR. LET EVERY CITIZEN STOP RIGHT NOW...STOP WHAT THEY ARE DOING...AND ASK THEMSELVES WHO THEY WOULD LIKE TO SEE AS REEVE AND COUNCILLOR OF NIPIGON. THEN LET THEM MAKE A SINCERE EFFORT TO HAVE THIS PERSON RUN FOR OFFICE. IF YOU FEEL THERE IS SOMETHING WRONG WITH THE ADMINISTRATION OF THE TOWN THE BEST WAY TO CORRECT IT IS TO EITHER RUN FOR OFFICE YOURSELF OR HELP ELECT SOMEONE WHO WILL CORRECT IT. ACTION IS ALWAYS BETTER THAN COMPLAINT. LET’S TAKE PRIDE IN NIPIGON - The centre focus point on the northern section of America's must scenic highway, the Circle Route. NIPIGON - An legendary heritage older than Canada itself. Nipigon was the home of the great Ojibway Nation many centuries before the first white man arrived here almost 300 years ago! NIPIGON - A name that is a byword around North America and the world for all sportsmen. Home of the world's largest speckled trout, home of the world’s finest and most varied fishing. NIPIGON - A town that supports itself; a town with its sleeves rolled up. A town that built its own arena, its own curling rink with volunteer labor. A town as rugged A town as rugged as the hills which surround it. NIPIGON - The junction point for anyone travelling West on North on two main highways, on both railroad lines. NIPIGON -Your home and our home. This message sponsored by THE NIPIGON CHAMBER of COMMERCE
