A YEAR OF PROGRESS IK BEARDMORE The final meeting of the Trustees for the Improvement District of Beardmore for 1960 was held Dec. 22. All members of the Board were present. The, present Board, which has handled the affairs of the district since the summer of 195 8, has as its members Tom Kelly, chairman; J. Katajamaki and N. Kilborne. Ray Nylund is the town clerk. Appointments to the Board of Trustees are made by Orders-in-Council by the Executive Council of the provincial government. When a member resigns, new applicants are recommended to the Executive Council. If the recommendation is approved the new member takes office. The term of office continues from year to year. A resigning member usually recommends a successor. The senior member of the board is usually appointed chairman. Members of the board must be British subjects and 21 years of age. The same board also sits as Trustees of the Public School. Several improvements and innovations have been brought about under the present administration. Chief among these are the new fire hall with oil furnace, a $12,000 teacher age, a new grader, bus transportation to Gerald-ton for high school students , a new water pump to supply the town hydrant on Main St. repairs to die town sidewalk on Main St. and colored lights for special occasions. Tom Kelly has been resident in the district for some 15 years, serving as field auditor for the St. Lawrence Corporation, then as accountant for T. Tansley,Camp 51 He is now accountant for Sinclair Motors as well as Tom Tansley. Jorma Katajamaki has been resident in the district for 13 years, first as Camp Clerk for Camp 25A and 63 for St. Lawrence Corporation (Brompton) until June 1950 when he moved into the Beardmore office where he now holds the position of Clerical Supervisor. Norman Kilbom came to Beardmore 10 years ago to work for Leitch Gold Mines and is mill mechanic at the mine. Ray Nylund came to Beardmore in 1950 as camp clerk for St. Lawrence Corporation He served in 1955 as assistant to the town clerk at Red Rock and then returned to Beardmore where he was employed at Hadley’s Garage and Sinclair Motors before becoming town clerk nearly four years ago. At the December meeting, j the Board decided to renew the contract with the O.P.P. Lumber for the ceiling of the fire hall will be purchased from Romano Lumber. A letter from the Supervisor of the Municipal Administrative Branch of the Dept, of Municipal Affairs advised the Board that any purchase of land from the CNR as road allowance was subject to the approval of the Branch. Deputations were present concerning applications for tax revision, improved snow removal and to press for fire drillat the local theatre. The deputation was informed that the date to make application for tax revision, Dec. 14, had been clearly marked on assessment forms, that a court of revision had not been set up yet, that suggested improvements for snow removal would double time of snow removal operation and delay removal over the whole area but some further study would be given to the problem . Fire drill at the theatre could be carried out with the cooperation of interested parents, theatre management and the town fire department. Two applications for contract for sanitation were considered. That of E. Enders was accented. . Regarding the test-well under consideration, the Ontario Water Resources Commission advised that, in the spring, if the town provided for drilling in the new budget, the Commission would Drovide personnel to supervise the work and strongly recommended a ground source water supply. 15 appeals for tax revision will come before the court of revision on a date to be set later. A new 20 inch typewriter will be purchased to replace the old one in the town office. Boxing day was officially set for Dec. 2 7. In answer to a request from the Recreation Committee for permission to contact the Hydro for a new transformer to replace the one at the skating rink, the clerk was instructed to notify the committee that the matter had already been attended to. The Clerk was also advised to inform A. Renaud who had applied for a license to sell, install and service TV receivers that if he opened a shop he did not require a vendors license. We could always count on the New Colony for a nice show but this year almost every house had a glittering display in their porch or front lawn. Denford, their son and daughter-in-law as well as their many other friends in Cameron Their next game is tentatively scheduled for Sat. Don and Mervin Belair flew to Winnipeg before Christmas to visit their brother Grodon who has been a patient at the Deer Lodge Hospital for some time. Friends of the Be lairs will be happy to know that Gordon has since been moved to the Ontario Hospital in Port Arthur and so visiting with him will be much easier. We thought we’d remind you that in case of any emergency - such as fire - dial 80. at the plant. Welcome to the newest resident, little Miss Angela Jones, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Pat Jones. They arrived home from Port Arthur last week. The Lome Carlett’s entertained Lome’s mother and father Mr. and Mrs. W.L. Corlett of Lis towel, Ont. Mr. and Mrs. J. Sherlock of Current River visited with Mr. and Mrs. Roy Potvin. Mrs. Sherlock (Mary) is Reggie’s sister. Mr. and Mrs. R. Perry of Port Arthur visited with Mr. and Mrs. T.W. Pesola, their daughter and son-in-law. Visiting with the D. Bylunds were Mr. and Mrs. L. Bylund and Mr. and Mrs. M. S teeners on of Port Arthur and Mr. and Mrs. C. Patton of Nipigon. Mr. and Mrs. J. Leece entertained Mr. and Mrs. G. Barr and Mr. and Mrs. E.W. Barr, Mrs. Leece’s mother and father, aunt and uncle of Port Arthur. Mrs . Lucy Walker of Meadow Lake, Sask., is visiting her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Russ Walker. Mrs. L. Leonzio of Fort William visited with her son and daughter-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. L. Leonzio. Mr. and Mrs. B. Douglas were host to Burt’s Mother and blather Mr. and Mrs. J. Douglas of Sioux Lookout. The annual general meeting of the Community Club will be held Wed. Jan 11. Along with the suggestions from the nominating committee formed at the meeting in Dec., nominations for office will be accepted from the floor. Please attend this meeting. Let’s have at least one representative from each family â€" and a real election for a change. Santa brought an extra large bundle to the D-D. Haigs â€" a new car â€" and in the season’s colors too. The car is red â€" the neighbours green. Anglican’s Note: Communion service Jan. 15 at 9.00 am. Our senior boy’s hockey team, the Cameron Falls Rangers, coached by Lome Corlett lost their first game of the season this week with the Red Rock Selects. The final score was 15 to 4.
