Three Nipigon men were driving to the Lakehead when they crashed into another car coming out, of the Dorion Hotel. Most seriously injured was Ken Wick, an Ontario Hydro employee, who was rushed to hospital with brain injuries, a fractured collarbone and severe bruises to most of his body. He was on the critical list for many days before finally showing signs of recovery. He was hospitalized from Oct. 25 until Dec. 7. The story reached a happy ending just before Christmas. Hydro employees from all across Canada helped collect for a fund that reached well over $300...a perfect Christmas present. The money came from as far away as Niagara Falls. Red Rock mill, where Ken worked two years ago before becoming a forestry learner, also helped in the fund. Karl Kramer, forestry foreman from Nipigon and Walt Legacy, of Red Rock Mill, made the presentations just before Christmas. NOMINATION DAY NEAR Nipigon will try again to find qualified persons to run for the position of Township reeve and councillor Monday night in the town’s second Nomination Meeting. The first meeting saw just one . person, Mrs. Betty Jeffrey, qualify for one of the two open seats on council and no one stand for reeve. Three school board candidates won their seats by acclamation while the present Reeve, George O’Neill, was named to the Hydro Board, also by acclamation. Mr. O’Neill, however, must by law, remain as reeve until such time as a new chief magistrate is elected. Since the dismal turnout of 25 persons at the first nomination meeting, the general interest in Nipigon has been higher and it is expected that a much better turnout will be seen Monday. At least three citizens have openly campaigned for support while many others have shown interest. The meeting starts at 8 pm and all citizens are urged to attend.
