Already they have sold many of these dolls and their leader said they have more on order. Early in December they sold roses to raise money for the retarded children campaign. They realized $37.87. DORION-HURKETT HAPPENINGS Fifth meeting this season of the Dorion-Hurkett Teens was held Friday, at the home of Shirley Stenlund. The meeting opened with Shirley Stenlund presiding in the chair. Thirteen members were present. A letter was read by the secretary, received from Al Miller giving helpful hints for starting a Junior Teen Town. It was voted by the majority that a Junior Teen Town was a good idea and plans were to be made to get one started very soon. Age limit was set at 11 to 14 years. The broomball team was picked and, with a little practice, will be ready to play the first game this season. Those picked were: Shirley Stenlund, Joyce Height, Betty Gardner, Iris Ca pia k, G loria Ec uima tes, Mamie Picklyk, Audrey Picklyk, Elaine Renaud Lucette and Lucille Aubin, Marge Bold. A Bulletin was read reminding everyone of the Northwestern Ontario Youth Conference to be held in Kenora early in April. The me e tin was then adjourned by Betty Gardner and seconded by Gerard Aubin. *** The Dorion Girl Guides accompanied by their leader, Mrs. M. Harris, made their Christmas visit to Mrs. E. Edmond or as she is known to the Guides, Grandma Edmond. Mrs. Edmond had her tree in and the girls decorated it for her. They spent the afternoon helping Mrs. Edmond get ready for Christmas and "Grandma” in turn told them a few of her interesting tales. The guides brought Mrs. Edmond a Christmas gift which she refused to open until Christmas morning. Every year the Girl Guides make this visit. Last year they brought her a lovely bouquet of roses which the girls made themselves. Mr. and Mrs. H. Brown and daughter Linda of Dorion spent Christmas with their parents at Magnetawari Ont. Mr. R. Patterson of Dorion spent Christmas in London, Ont., with his parents. Mr. and Mrs. Wm. Smaltz and family Marlene, Michelle and Billie spent Christmas with Mrs. Smaltz7s parents in Montreal and New Years with Mr. Smaltz's parents in Windsor, Ont. Andy Holtzman and Johnny Boykot of Otter Rapids spent the holiday with their families here in Hurkett. Mr. and Mrs. W. Tergie and son George of Hurkett accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. W. Jackson of Fort William, spent the holidays with Tergie’s daughter and family in Montreal. Art Harris of Dorion, left Jan 3 for Dorset, Ont. where he will attend Rangers School for one year. Mr. Harris is employed with the Dorion Fish Hatchery. Mr. and Mrs. Maurice Landry , Philip and Mr. Adolph DeKelver were visitors at the home of Mr. and Mrs. John Husilik of Dorion. Th e Hu rke 11 R in k C omra -ittee has accepted Phil Larocque as caretaker for the coming season. It is hoped the rink will be in operation following New Years. Dorion and Hurkett had many visitors over the holiday. The Brian Broughtons were hosts to Mr. and Mrs. Don Krantz and girls Garnet and Ingrid of Silver Bay. Minn., Mr. and Mrs. Lester Watson and Don of Fort William, Gary Hansen of Fort William is spending his holidays with Wayne Broughton while Gwen Broughton is holidaying at the Hansen residence. Maureen Hodgins is spending her holidays with Dianne Broughton. Star and Shayne Aylward of Atikokan are spending a holiday with their father and grandparents Mr. and Mrs. W. Aylward of Hurkett. Art and Helen Aylward and Cathy Lynn and Tim of Geraldton spent the long weekend at the F. Larocque home in Hurkett. Mr. and Mrs. V. Belair and daughter Faith were visitors at the Art Harris home in Dorion. Mr. Percy Broughton of Dorion is a patient in Mc-Kellar hospital. After many weeks of hard practising the Hurkett and Dorion school pupils put on a very enjoyable Christmas concert.” For many of the small pupils this was a very exciting time --- the first time they had acted on stage with their mommies, and daddies sitting in the front row. The evening’s program was made up of recitations, Plays and carols. All the pupils had some part to act out. Both halls were gaily decorated in Christmas colors which the pupils had done the day before. At the close of the concert came that exciting moment when Santa appeared. The preschool children were also given presents and candy by Santa. HURKETT HOLDS NOMINATIONS Nomination night was held in the Hurkett school Wednesday evening. At this meeting two members were to be nominated for the Board of Trustees, Stirling and Lyons Township School Area. Those nominated were Mrs. Mary Boyko, William Holder, George Coulombe, John Wychopen and Mrs. Anna Larocque. Those who let their names stand for election were Mary Boyko, George Coulombe and William Holder. The date set for the election was Saturday, Jan. 7, at the Hurkett school from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. Returning officer will be Mrs. Lyla Aylward. For this meeting William Aylward was appointed chairman and Mrs. Anna Larocque secretary. A financial report was read by the secretary-treasurer Mrs. Lyla Aylward which showed the following receipts for 1960: $ 24,173-07 Disbursements, $20,332.58 Balance $3,840.51.
