When the royal train visited Paris on June 7, 1939, it made an unexpected stop some distance from the official reception platform. An enthusiastic crowd of Parisians rushed forth to greet the observation car directly. King George VI and Queen Elizabeth can be seen in the distance on the platform.

The leader of the Girl Guides, who are the only group remaining stationary on the tracks, is Gladys Steuart-Jones, a granddaughter of Hiram Capron.

When the royal train proved to be shorter than expected, the spectators broke ranks and rushed forward towards the observation platform. Only Gladys-Steuart [sic] Jones and her Girl Guides stood firmly at attention.
