- This book by Joseph A. Scott traces the history of the "forgotten" Carlyle brother, John Carlyle. He was the half-brother of the much more famous Thomas Carlyle, historian and philosopher. John was born in Scotland, but emigrated to North America and eventually moved to Mount Pleasant, where he lived most of his life.
