- This undated photograph shows Captain James Ellis wearing a Civil War uniform in New Orleans. Like many young Canadians at that time, he enlisted in the American Civil War. Two of his brothers, Edward and Wallace, also enlisted - Edward died during the war. He was the son of Henry Ellis, the eldest son of Allan Ellis; Allan was the son of village co-founder Henry Ellis.
