- This photograph depicts a set of Willow Street shops and factories c. 1880-90. This section of the street is near the William Street raceway which provided these buildings with water-power. The long building at the left is the main shop of the Maxwell Agricultural Works, which would later become a part of Penman Manufacturing and demolished in the 1970s.
D.A. Smith gives the date of this photograph as c. 1890; the original matting gives a date of c. 1880.

A group of Willow Street shops and factories about 1880. They all got their power from the mill-race. The long building in the left middle ground is the main shop of the Maxwell Agricultural Works. It was later part of Penmans Ltd. About 1970, it was torn down. - Date of Original
