The McPherson "clan" is meeting in Edmonton in June. Dr.James McPherson, back row, and his wife Edith and at least two of their sons left Paris for Edmonton circa 1910 to practise dentistry in Edmonton. He apparently turned down an offer to emigrate to the Falkland Islands and opted for the west. We wonder why he left Paris. His descendants number in the 100's and many will be in Edmonton in June. There are few photographs of him ( I don't have access to any )to compare his image with but I think he is the bareheaded man in the centre of the back row. His time in Paris is not known to any of us (his grandchildren in our 70's) and it was very exciting to see this photograph on your web site. It underlines the need for historical societies. Would it be possible to see this photograph if I visited Paris? The fellow in the back row with the boater hat looks a lot like the fellow in the right foreground with the boater hat. Were they twins or was someone playing games with the photographer?
Thank you, Jim, for your comments. This image is owned by the Paris Museum and Historical Society. If you visit Paris you could visit the museum and ask them if you may see the photo. -Christine MacArthur Digital Initiatives Librarian
The individuals identified as Mrs Aitken ( back row) and Hilda Aitkin (front row) ...are in fact...Mrs Atkins and Hilda Atkins
