The grocery and glassware store of John Patterson was situated at the corner of Dundas and Burwell streets. Until about 1935, meat and grocery orders were phoned in and then delivered. The building directly beyond the store was one of the first, if not the first, hotels in Paris. Henry Rheder owned and operated this general store at 11 Market Street c. 1900. He later moved to 80 Grand River Street N. His unusual slogan was printed in large letters on the side of his downtown store: 'Don't worry. Cash on the Nail. Saves you Money!' — meaning that he gave credit by placing the bill on a spike.
