Description
This letter invites James Bruce, Lord Elgin, governor general of Canada from 1847-1854, to visit “the Village of Paris.” It is signed by Hiram Capron, J.M. Smith, and Hugh Finlayson, all of whom were councilors of Paris beginning 1850.
Notes
While the letter is not directly dated, Elgin was Governor General of Canada from 1847 to 1854. Because the letter references that title, it appears that it was written sometime during this period. Because these three men representing Paris were first elected councilors in 1850, it was likely written after this date.
