Statement confirming Hiram Capron’s oath of allegiance, which he undertook on July 13th, 1822, after renouncing his American citizenship in order to obtain the full rights of a British subject in Canada. A later statement, from 1829, also exists and is included in this collection.

This statement was referenced in page 32 of At the Forks of the Grant, Volume I.

I hereby Certify that Hiram Capron of the township of Charlotteville Gentleman, has taken and Subscribed the oath of allegiance as required by Law before me. [J?op??] General [Q?cut??] [S?p????] of the Peace at Charlotteville this thirteenth day of July in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and twenty two and third year of his majesty's Reign
