Description

Headstone in Salt Springs Cemetery for many members of the Burrill Family. Burials span over 100 years with the earliest in 1864 and the latest in 2001.

William Burrill Jr. died June 20th, 1919 at 82 years old. He was married to Mary (Maiden name Henderson) who passed away in March 1892 at 52. There is a marker for Claro E and James that states "Son of William and Mary Burrill". It is unclear if the marker is for two people or one and the only date is for a death on August 19th 1876.

William Burrill Sr. died on February 22nd 1883 at 75 and was married to Ann, who passed away April 29nd 1886 at the age of 80. William Sr. was originally from Lincolnshire England.

T. Henry Burrill died February 21st 1864 at 20 years, 4 months, and 6 days old. Florence V. passed away on February 13 1983, and Edith R. died in 1985. It is unknown how these three are related.

Alfred Burrill died on January 11th 1922 at 76 years old and was married to Elizabeth (maiden name Henderson) who was 79 when she passed on March 31st 1934.

Jennie R. Burrill passed away in 1948, Charlotte Serjeant (Maiden name Burrill) died in 1991, and Wilma R Burrill passed in 2001. Both Charlotte and Wilma have second headstones elsewhere in the cemetery.

Notes

Located right next to the Salt Springs Church on the Grand River, the Salt Springs Cemetery has been in operation since 1822. The cemetery is still active under the management of the Salt Springs Cemetery Board of Trustees. There is a plaque on the property that tells the history of the Grand River Mission.
