- This 5 August 19992 article describes the death of Cathcart man Bill Symons who was serving with United Nations peace keeping forces in Cambodia. Symons died at the age of 22 on 12 July 1992 while on leave in Bangkok, Thailand.
Symons' funeral was held on 21 July 1992 and was officiated by Rev. Nora Feuton and Maj. Mac Burke.
Sue Thompson and Ken Ovington set up a scholarship in Symons' memory.
Symons is survived by his parents Brenda and Stan, his brother Bob, and his sister Barb.
