Description
Collection of four black and white photographs of the Welcome Home Party for returning local war veterans on 22 October 1945. Identified by the architecture, it is believed the event venue was the Sly Apps Arena, as it was the only arena in Paris in 1945.

1999.0304.01: Hanging from the rafters are several flags including the Union Jack, a 48-star flag of the United States of America, a flag with a Nordic cross, a Green Harp Flag (flag of Ireland), a White Ensign, and other Union Jack renditions. Servicemen in uniform are standing lined up to the right, a few are standing on stairs, and one is on the stage, about to receive a rolled piece of paper from a group of four men standing behind a desk. Behind them is a group of women seated wearing dark long robes with white collars. Five pots of ferns and two pots of mums line the edge of the stage and where they men are waiting in line.

1999.0304.01(2): Taken from a slightly different angle and further back, a few rows of a seated crowd of uniformed servicemen can be seen in the foreground. Two men of the group of men handing out items have moved to a second table to the left. Servicemen are still receiving items and crossing the stage. Additional flags can be seen hanging from the rafters including the Royal Standard of the United Kingdom, the Canadian Red Ensign 1868–1921, and another Union Jack.

1999.1194.01: Taken at a higher angle from the stands, the majority of the crowd can be seen, as well as the central stage, with seated servicemen in uniform to the left, and a Canadian Forces band to the right. It appears as though the first three rows of the crowd consist of servicemen, and the rest consisting of individuals wearing civilian clothing. Additional flags are seen from this angle to the left including a tri-coloured flag, the Red Cross flag, and more Union Jacks and flags of the United States.

1999.1194.01(2): Taken from ground level near where the servicemen were seated to the left of the stage, of the whole crowd, seated in chairs on the ground, and in the stands. There is a lighting crew on a platform between the stands, and there are Union Jacks/Flags of England hanging from the rafters.
