Her hymn, "God who touchest Earth with Beauty" known as the Camp Hymn, was chosen for the Presbyterian and Baptist books and the Catholic Book of Worship in 1972 (Edgar, 1978). Mary Edgar's written works, including a book of rhymes entitled Once There was a Camper written in 1970, serves as sources of inspiration to people involved in youth work (Edgar, 1970). Mary- Edgar was the first female camp director who had an impact outside her own camp (Ebbs, 1978; Gilchrist, John, 1978| Northway, 19781 Wong, 1975*2). She was Canada's number one female pioneer in camping and youth work, as was evident by the fact that she started the first private girls camp in Canada. When interviewed, John Gilchrist remarked "wasn't the establishment of the first private girls camp enough for her to be considered a camping pioneer in Canada?" (Gilchrist, John, 197$).
