Spring fever is moving in; hockey is moving out, but fast; and fastball talk is beginning to take on a healthier tone. Ed Scappatura lets it be known that the Belmont fastballers will hold a meeting Friday night, May 4, at the hotel, to map out the plan of action for the coming campaign. He is still keeping mum on what he plans to do this year, and everyone is waiting to see which way the sponsor steps. Down Sundridge way, citizens could outboast the talkative Texan this week by a country mile. They are all hepped up on the championship the Beavers won Monday night, and they have every reason to be proud. Team officials are planning a buffet lunch and dance, tentatively set for Thursday, May 10, at the Sundridge Community Centre. Members of the club will also be resented with jackets for their efforts in bringing home the Intermediate "A" championship. Official attendance at Monday's seventh and deciding game was a rafter expanding crowd of 1,975. It was a huge gathering for the rink, but not the largest on record. Last year's Bracebridge series really packed them in, in the hockey crazed community. With a population below the 2,000 mark, there were still 2,200 persons crammed into the rink. Not a bad showing for any town when taken on a percentage basis. If you want to look at it this way, North Bay would need a rink similar to Cortina's if the populace turned out here in such a manner. The sign board says over 22,000 persons. Now if these 22,000 along with district fans combined, ever wanted to see see one game, the NOHA representatives would have little to worry about from a fin- ancial angle. Probably impossible, but not in Sundridge. Speaking of Sundridge, one of its residents, Miss Donalda Schneider was moved by the efforts of the Beavers in their championship efforts and composed a poem in their honor. Following is Miss Schneider's poem on the Sundridge Beavers. THE BEAVERS OUR HEROES On the eve of April 30th, All the Beaver fans were proud; To see their team win the cup, Before a frenzied crowd. Standing there before us all, Was the prize they were striving for, It was standing there as a challenge; Just inside victory's door. The arena was filled with a thunderous roar, And the air with a tenseness so great; The final bell rang, and Bucko's Beavers, To the championship did skate. Victory's doors swung open wide; Bucko's Beavers marched within; And captured that glittering trophy, The championship did win. And Bucko, may I say a word, "You've coached your team just great." "You've got at last a winning team," "Which hasn't met its mate."
